How to market yourself in your resume
A great résumé will have employers begging you to work for them. A résumé is the first and most important step in your quest for employment; it is the key to getting you that all-important interview.
The first thing to consider is that potential employers will only take 15-20 seconds to look at your résumé before deciding if they want to invite you for an interview. It’s up to you to do everything you can to make a strong and lasting impression within that limited time span. Here’s a few resources that will help you knock their socks off.
The Government of Canada Youth Canada website has a guide that will help you write a résumé. In this guide, you will find out how to structure a résumé and what information needs to be included in it. The Youth Canada website also has a guide that will assist you in writing a cover letter.
If you want to talk to someone about writing cover letters, résumés or job hunting, check out the Government of Canada Service Canada Centres for Youth (SCCY). They offer help to youth who are looking for employment and they also have tools you can use, such as computers, photocopiers, etc. Their services are free of charge.
