In part 1 of this blog series, we talked about how the Facebook Causes application can be used to help promote social change by raising money and awareness for different charities. Facebook isn’t the only social networking site that can be used to promote positive change. In fact, several social networking sites focusing exclusively on promoting social change have popped up.

The site change.org promotes activism on a variety of subjects such as women’s rights, homelessness, human trafficking, and more. When users register, they can interact with other members and share ideas on these subjects. There are blog posts, media articles, thought-provoking articles, job postings, links to non-profits, and campaigns on the various issues. The site provides a way for socially conscious individuals to get to know one another and to help out a cause they are passionate about.

Another site, yourcause.com, invites users to create a web page about a cause they care about. By linking this page to a charitable organization and inviting members to subscribe to their page, members raise money for their cause at the same time as they spread awareness.

There are many other social networking sites that you can use to promote positive change in the world. A few others are hopeequity.org and sixdegrees.org. Check them out to see how you can make a difference!

Stay tuned for part 3 in the blog series where we’ll discuss online gaming sites promoting social change!
